As one of the main habitats and breeding grounds for the wild Chinese water deer (Hydropotes inermis), the Yancheng coastal wetlands hold a unique ecological significance. Analysis of GPS-GSM tracking data, coupled with the habitat selection index and MaxEnt model, allowed us to simulate and analyze the distribution of suitable H. inermis habitat, across seasons, and to identify the key influencing factors. H. inermis's usage of reed marshes was substantial, with spring-summer usage rates reaching 527% and autumn-winter usage rates reaching 628%, as revealed by the results. In different seasons, the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve, as calculated by the MaxEnt model, was found to be 0.873 and 0.944, which indicated strong predictive power. During the spring and summer, the sub-optimal and ideal habitats were primarily concentrated in reed marshes, farmland, and ponds. Phycosphere microbiota Autumn and winter saw reed marshes and ponds as the primary habitat types, amounting to only 57% and 85% of the spring and summer equivalents.
