Qualitative research was undertaken using a grounded theory design approach. Ninety percent of fatalities from armed conflicts in the first decade of the 21st century were civilians, and a significant proportion of these victims were children. The devastating, short-term and long-term, effects of armed conflict on the health and well-being of children are some of the most serious violations of their rights in the 21st century. Exposure to armed conflict is growing among children, who are unfortunately being specifically targeted by both governmental and non-governmental combat forces. Despite the comprehensive framework of international human rights and humanitarian laws, as well as multiple declarations, conventions, treaties, and courts dedicated to protecting children, the unfortunate reality remains that child casualties in armed conflicts have demonstrably increased over the decades. This critical issue necessitates a dedicated and concerted effort towards its resolution and rectification.
